Police remain confident they will apprehend the Kiama man soon, despite failing to locate him during the search.
At 9.40am, Lake Illawarra Police were called to an address in Bland Street in a bid to locate the man.
This was a follow-up to a March 16 incident, during which a male, allegedly armed with an axe and a handgun was involved in an argument with a family member.
Lake Illawarra Commander, Superintendent Wayne Starling said as part of the investigation, police attended the address as they had reason to believe the male offender was located in the house.
Police cordoned off the house, set up a perimeter and conducted an extensive search, including using the dog squad.
After being unable to locate him, the search concluded at 11.34am.
Inquiries are continuing, and Superintendent Starling said police expected an early arrest; within the next few days.
