Stewards are set to introduce a new local rule about the length of time horses have to be in stables before barrier trialling and racing. Concerns have arisen about horses coming out of pre-training stables to barrier trial, and the new rule will focus on stamping that out. A horse will have to be in its racing stable for two weeks before a barrier trial and four weeks before it races under the new rule. ‘‘We will be doing inspections to make sure horses are where they say they are,’’ chief steward Ray Murrihy said. ‘‘We want trainers to be in control of all their horses at their stable.’’
