AutumnFest '14 organiser Ken Magnus said the highlight would be an attempt to set the Guinness World Record for the most number of couples kissing simultaneously for a minute, with the proceeds going to Multiple Sclerosis Research Australia.
"I was formerly with the Lugarno Lions Club and they have held a carnival like this every year for the last 35 years and it is now the second largest event of its type outside the Sydney Royal," Mr Magnus said.
"Our challenge this year will be to establish the AutumnFest as well as attempting to break the record for the most number of couples kissing simultaneously in the one area for a time of 60 seconds.
The current record stands at 8372 couples, set in Brazil in 2009.
"Our cousins in Sydney have tried to break the record and failed, so we hope thousands of couples in the Illawarra show just how good we are and shame those of the St George area," Mr Magnus said.
An extensive entertainment program has been arranged by Steve Omrod and Al Thomas from Minnamurra Lions Club, together with Andrew Chatfield from Kiama Youth Centre, who has organised talented musicians. School bands, dancers and buskers will also be performing.
Entertainment starts at 8.30am and goes non-stop through to 4pm, with the Spare a Kiss for MS event at 12.30pm.
The day would not be complete without carnival rides, with the rides selected to fit the format of the day and are the same rides that will be used at the Sydney Show in April.
John Knox from Minnamurra Lions Club has put together a classic car and motorbike display for those who love the cars of yesteryear.
Emergency services will be in attendance, as well as food stalls.
