KIAMA Bowling Club club championship pairs competition was the highlight last week with both the ladies and men now well into the preliminary rounds of this hard fought and popular form of the game.

On Tuesday the ladies played their first round games in inclement weather and were nevertheless able to complete all matches with some close results.
R. Jones and B. Campbell def S. Read and H. Joske 19-14, V. Collins and J. McIntyre def J. Hair and G. Hodgson 19-12, G. O'Donnell and C. Dawson def C. O'Neil and A. Evans 17-14 and N. Marrow and M. Minet def E. Egan and B. Roser 21-13.
Thursday was a much better day for the ladies for the start of the second round and we saw some fine bowls played.
M. Walker and C. Rymer def G. Roy and J. Brownlie 19-14, V. Collins and J. McIntyre def R. Jones and B. Campbell 24-15 and V. Blakey and J. Clowes def G. O'Donnell and C. Dawson 21-18 after it was locked on 18-all going into the last end.
In the first round of the men's pairs matches, R. White and A. Rodgers def G. O'Neil and D. Barnes 26-5, J. Heidtmann and K. Pepper def G. Bartrim and T. Martin 22-18, A. Van Zanen and P. Wallace def J. Mears and R. Netherclift 25-16 and C. Baker and N. Tylee def W. Gorrisen and W. Richardson 31-9.
Social bowlers had good numbers during the week. The ladies on Tuesday saw S. Heidtmann, N. Brown and B. Harrison the winners, while on Wednesday the men had M. Mesa, B. Harris and W. Montifiore take out the winners' spoils.
The Thursday men once again used up all available green space and S. Wills and J. Heidtmann were the winning pair while on Saturday, all green space was again taken up with the men entertaining teams from Albion Park in a Pennant Trial and the social bowlers using the remaining space with N. Spackman, J, White, R. White and R. Parkinson finishing winners on the day.
The ladies are holding the annual Jarratt Cup on Monday, February 17, with 20 teams of fours from the Illawarra region competing. Kiama ladies are asked to bring cakes, slices and plants for the trading table.
