About 3.40pm on December 16, the man entered a general store in Albion Park and approached the counter.
The man asked the 16-year-old who was working behind the counter for cigarettes, prompting the teen to turn his back and look for a particular brand.
As he did, the man hit the boy over the head with a wrench or something similar, causing a deep laceration. The man walked behind the counter and stole an amount of cash from the register.
He struck the employee a number of times in the head with his fist before running from the scene with the cash.
Police were called and a full investigation is underway.
