CAR enthusiasts and collectors can indulge their passions and help a worthy cause at the inaugural Kiama Car Spectacular.
Organised in partnership between the Gerringong and Kiama Rotary Clubs, the Kiama Car Spectacular at Kiama Showground on Saturday, will operate as a swap meet as well as having a range of vintage vehicles on display. Proceeds will go to beyondblue and Australian Rotary Health.
‘‘There’s not really anything like this in the area, there’s other swap meets and car shows in the area, but nothing really on this scale that combines the two,’’ Gerringong Rotary Club member Bob Waite said.
‘‘Goulburn has a big event each year and that gets a huge number of people coming along, so that’s served as inspiration for us and if we could replicate that we thought it would be a great way to raise some money.’’
The Rotary clubs are hoping to make the event an annual occurrence and have been pleased by the level of interest so far.
‘‘It’s been great, so far we’ve got more than 60 cars, motorbikes and other bits of vintage machinery entered to be displayed and we’ve got a lot of people who have booked stalls as well for the swap meet part of the day as well,’’ Mr Waite said.
‘‘We’re trying to make the day a family affair as well, so we’ll have attractions like rides and things for kids and market stalls and things like that.’’
Anybody wishing to show a car or a vehicle can do so at no cost and can register on the day, but must arrive at the Showground before 10am.
Anybody wising to run a stall on the day can book a place by heading to rotarykiama.org.au. Stall bookings start at $30.
Entry for the day is $5 for adults with free admission for people aged under 14.
