A new initiative introduced on Sunday was a one lap race (approximately one and third kilometres) which will encourage the smaller runners and also provide an opportunity for anyone who wants a gentle introduction into the club.
Therese James was the winner of the long run in only her second attempt and in a time that was an improvement of three-quarters of a minute over the earlier effort.
The new champion, Craig Harris, continued where he left off by claiming second place and improving his best time by another fifteen seconds. In what was also a continuation from the previous competition, Allan Sim secured third place and there is little doubt that Allan and Craig will again figure prominently in the new competition.
Race organiser Bob Behl enjoyed his highest finish ever, due more to a favourable handicap rather than any new-found form. Only three seconds behind Bob was Rachel Dyer after the pair had swapped positions regularly over the full four kilometres.
Ruth Mawbey carried on her steady improvement with a further half-minute reduction to her best time to win the two and a half kilometre run.
Ellie Burnett finished in second place, just ahead of Tahlia Koorey. The others to feature in a top five finish were Toby Behl-Shanks and Alicia Harris.
The clear winner of the one-lap run was Alex Mawbey with Annique Burnett in second place.
Filling out the balance of the top five finishes were Lilli Mawbey, Isabella Mawbey and Tasman Koorey.
The long-course net times and finishing order were Therese James 21m52s, Craig Harris 23m58s, Allan Sim 16m34s, Bob Behl 22m40s, Rachel Dyer 22m43s, Colleen Behl 30m14s, Leonie Shepstone 21m57s, Darcy Alexander 16m22s, Max Harris 18m38s, Warwick Shanks 18m9s, Cleo Dyer 21m40s, Tony Maloney 25m55s, Amanda Koorey 20m46s, Randall Harris 20m23s, Mario Biancucci 21m18s, Dean Koorey 26m55s, Sharon Behl-Shanks DNF.
