GERROA'S Sally Fitzgibbons has taken out her first event of the year in the ASP Women's World Championship Tour, downing fellow Aussie Tyler Wright 17.67 to 17.00 in the final of the Roxy Pro France at Seignosse Le Penon.
Fitzgibbons was the first surfer to score a perfect 10 in France, which she attained in the quarter-final against Stephanie Gilmore, and holds three of the highest wave scores of the event.
"I'm so stoked," Fitzgibbons said. "It's been a long road this year and I wanted to finish strong.
"In that final, we switched peaks and I was just sorting things out when she got a 10. I got that last good one and I was hoping it would be enough."
Fitzgibbons was the dominant surfer in the heats, where she overpowered her opponents. However, she had to fight back in the final when Wright caught an inside right-hander to score the only other perfect 10-point ride of the event.
The final round of the tour will take place in Portugal from October 3-7.
