OAK Flats Falcons Football Club's youth-grade side will face Thirroul in the Illawarra District League grand final this weekend.
The Falcons had to beat Corrimal Rangers at Memorial Park, Corrimal, last Saturday. They won 4-1, with goals from Jack McGaffin, Jay Mason, Chad Fernandez and Jackson Brooks.
The Falcons scored first and led 1-0 at the break, after a tight first half.
The Rangers soon equalised, and after action in front of both goals, the Falcons took a 2-1 lead. Quick third and fourth goals seemed to take the fight out of their opposition.
The coaching staff praised the entire team for its character and spirit.
Coach Dave Brindell and assistant Isko Atanasovski invested a lot of work at training, and it has paid off.
Their defence was sometimes shaky, but they survived many attempts by the opposition to crack them.
The Falcons dominated midfield, winning possession and attacking with quick breakaways, catching Corrimal off-guard. The last two goals came from speedy attacks out-sprinting the opposition.
Injured player Justin Beregshasy attended to support his mates, his leg in plaster.
Thirroul defeated Wests Illawarra in extra time at Crehan Park, Cringila.
The match will kick off at at 12.45pm this Saturday at WIN Stadium.
