AFTER the Oak Flats Falcons Football club’s youth grade semi-final against Wests was abandoned because of a serious leg injury to Justin Beregshasy last week, the match was played mid-week.
With a grand final appearance for the winners just 90 minutes away, both sides were keen to get the result.
The Falcons won 2-0, through two Jackson Brooks goals.
Surprisingly, the injured Beregshasy showed up just hours after being released from hospital to cheer his mates on.
Coach Dave Brindell and assistant Isko Atanasovski were generally pleased with the result, but are still looking for improvement.
The Man of the Match was Liam Gallo, who worked tirelessly in midfield. He was supported by a solid backline effort from Jake Leighton, Ben Brooks and Jack Castelli, as well as midfielders Bryce Lloyd, Jack McGaffin, Alex Bausch and Jay Mason.
Up-front, strikers Chad Fernandez and Jackson Brooks pressured the opposition, while the bench – Bryce Gilroy, Jesse Annan, Luke Cucino, Mitchell Hile and Logan Gibb – were all vital to the team’s success.
The Falcons have a free weekend while they await the announcement of their opponent and venue for the final.
In other news, former Falcon Josh Bingham has signed with A-League’s Central Coast Mariners.
The 18-year-old played in the Falcons’ youth grade, before moving to Dandaloo and then to South Coast Wolves in the State League. He won the Golden Boots award at both clubs.
