TWO fisherman were left wet and embarrassed but alive after their boat sank off the Kiama Blowhole on Sunday.
At about 2pm the occupants set off a distress flare which was spotted by people on a nearby fishing boat.
Lifesavers onboard the Kiama Jet Rescue Boat responded quickly and arrived to find the sinking boat submerged.
The fishermen from the stricken vessel had been rescued and were on board another fishing boat.
Both men were taken back to Kiama Harbour, where they were assessed by paramedics. They did not suffer any injuries.
Rhys Dawson a South Coast Branch Duty Officer and Kiama Jet Rescue Boat Captain said the incident unfolded very quickly.
‘‘The boat appears to have suffered some sort of mechanical failure and began to take on water,’’ he said. ‘‘It was rough around the blowhole at the time and the guys on board the private boat who happened to be close by did an excellent job in conducting a rescue in choppy conditions".
