At the completion of the 2013 ClubsNSW Academy Games, the IAS along with media consultant Neryl East entered the community relation section of the prestigious Golden Target Awards, conducted by the Public Relations Institute of Australia.
Mrs East has recently been advised that the application has been short-listed in the community category and the winners will be announced later this month at a function in Sydney.
"This is an outstanding result, particularly since the media at ClubsNSW Academy Games involved many of the public relations students from University of Wollongong in a partnership arrangement."
Cycling trials and partnership
The IAS cycling program continues to go from strength to strength.
Along with the current squad, a number of new athletes were tested at the Unanderra Velodrome on Saturday.
The testing involved a maximum leg speed 10-second ergo, 30-second ergo and a four-kilometre time-trial at the velodrome.
The IAS would also like to recognise the contribution of the Illawarra Cycle Club, which provides the use of the velodrome at no cost for all IAS sessions, including the use of lighting and the motorbike.
The cycle club also provides financial support for many of the athletes who are selected in state and national teams.
Under-15 netball development squad
The IAS under-15 development squad had training over the weekend with IAS netball coach Vicki Jansen.
The squad is training hard for the Netball NSW Training Development Weekend in early October.
2014 IAS Battlewin netball trials
It will be crunch time for more than 50 aspiring young netballers when they attend the 2014 IAS Battlewin netball trials at the University of Wollongong on Sunday, September 8.
Athletes from the region's five netball associations - Illawarra, Kiama, Shoalhaven, Ulladulla and Southern Highlands - will be keen to show their talents in front of IAS selectors to win a place in the 2014 IAS Netball Program.
Netball NSW high performance staff will also be present to assist with selections as well as earmarking players for future representative programs.
