Kiama under-12s class act

THE Kiama under-12 cricket team have produced a superb team effort, outclassing Lake Illawarra to win the 2012-13 12As premiership.

While the Kiama Picture Co-Greg Norris Accounting Kiama side battled for runs throughout, stubborn resistance from opener Blake Males (16) held the innings together and allowed the team to finish with a below par, but competitive 83.

Good Lake bowling and a spongy Bonaira Street surface made scoring hard, but the pressure was now on Kiama's bowlers to produce - and they did so in spades.

Kiama's most improved bowler this season, Harry Grant, struck in his first over. Wickets continued to fall as Lake just couldn't handle the accuracy of the Cavs attack and enthusiasm in the field.

For the second week in a row the opposition's danger man Blake Roach was dismissed for a duck - this time by Harvey Austin, who shattered his stumps.

From there on Kiama were all over their opposition.

Wickets fell regularly and in the end Lake were dismissed for just 30 - amazingly handing Kiama a 53-run win.

Jake Richards and Josh Little both finished with 2-1 off two overs and topped the bowling figures.

Grant led the attack with 1-0 from three maiden overs, Harvey Austin (1-7), Baxter Kane (1-5), Callum Flanagan (1-3), Curtis Mowbray (1-3) and Dylan Pemberton (1-2) all took wickets, while Tom Norris (0-2), Blake Males (0-2) and Tyson Murray (0-3) bowled accurately to help secure the victory.
