LOCAL fans of the Wollongong triathlon and the Huskisson triathlon festival, which involves more than 4000 athletes in various triathlon and multisport events, will be delighted to hear the organisers of those events - Elite Energy will be staging the Kiama Aquathon on April 14.
The aquathon will be held at Black Beach with five events of varying distances to cater for all levels of ability.
The three adult/teen distance aquathons will take place in the harbour with the various runs going up around the lighthouse and continuing on the paths until the halfway mark of each run when the runners will turn and head back to the finishing line at Black Beach.
The longest run will be 10 kilometres with the turnaround near the surf club.
The adult distance aquathons are a 300-metre swim and three-kilometre run, a 500-metre swim and a five-kilometre run and the longest event will have a one-kilometre swim with a 10-kilometre run.
The children's aquathons will take place in the ocean pool with the run around the harbour.
This event is designed to cater to all levels of ability and Elite Energy encourages Kiama's residents to use it as a fitness goal.
The event is expected to bring hundreds of competitors, their friends and families to town and with it associated economic benefits.
Elite Energy will be using its extensive NSW athlete database and marketing to make sure this event is a success for Kiama and the region.
Elite Energy managing director Mark Emerton is excited to be bringing this sporting festival to Kiama," Mr Emerton said.
"This is a great opportunity for Kiama and the region.
"As a local South Coast company we are passionate about bringing exciting sporting events to this region.
"Having this new event right in our company's backyard is exciting for us."
