IT was a week of highlights for Kiama Bowling Club, starting with a visit from a group of Travelling Bowlers from the island of Jersey in the English Channel.
These 18 bowls enthusiasts were on a 10-day visit, playing at a number of clubs in the Illawarra.
The group has been travelling to Commonwealth countries since its formation in 1968 to promote friendship between the countries they visit and their own.
We also had our ladies playing in the final of the District Senior Fours Championship against Warilla and although our ladies fought hard right to the last end, the team of Mel Walker, Shirley Read, Cathy Dawson and Gloria Hodgson could not hold out against the very strong Warilla team.
The final of the ladies major singles was played on Thursday between Greta O'Donnell and Gloria Hodgson.
Although the match was close early, Greta proved too strong for Gloria on the day, playing consistent bowls to ultimately win the match 25-5. Congratulations go to Greta on a fine performance to take out the 2013 title.
Our men are now well into the first round matches of their major singles and G. McIntyre def R. White 31-14, M. Weir def M. Ganderton in a close one 31-30, S. Wills def C. Baker 31-14, M. Wilson def A. VanZanen 31-10 and C. Rolls def W. Corkin 31-16.
The ladies and men's pennants get under way this week.
