A man has been found with a sum of cash and a replica firearm following an armed robbery in Kiama this afternoon.
Lake Illawarra Police Inspector Ron Davis said a man entered Kiama Pie Shop about 3.20pm and approached a 20-year-old female staff member.
Insp Davis said the man drew what the staff member described as a revolver-type firearm and demanded cash from the till.
The man then stuffed the cash inside a beanie and fled the scene south along Railway Parade - the woman immediately closed the store and alerted police.
A crime scene was established, including a forensic examination, and a search was conducted of the area.
Police later stopped a vehicle at a service station on Manning Street, Kiama and a man was taken into custody.
The man is now assisting police with their inquiries.
Insp Davis said a search of the vehicle uncovered a replica firearm and a sum of cash was found on his person, however no charges have yet been laid.
The man is described as 170 centimetres tall of medium build with a fair complexion, wearing a grey hooded jumper, shorts and sunglasses.
Anyone who witnessed a man of his description fleeing the scene is urged to contact Lake Illawarra Police on 4232 5599 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
