THE weather played havoc with Kiama Bowling Club's calendar this week, with the ladies on Tuesday and the men on the weekend being totally washed out.
Nevertheless, the ladies completed some of their major singles matches on Thursday. Gloria Hodgson defeated Audrey Evans 25-23, Greta O'Donnell defeated Mel Walker 25-22, Shirley Read beat Cathy Rymer 25-16 and Jo Hair won on a forfeit from Gaye Reynolds.
The ladies' social bowls on Thursday featured Jo Hair and Mirielle Minet winning.
Our Wednesday men's winners were P. Tippett, J. Heidtmann (back after knee surgery) and G. Clowes while D. Swindale, B. Sharak and R. Harrison were runners-up.
Thursday's men had all rinks full playing nominated pairs in the best day (weatherwise) of the week.
The winners were B. Sharak and R. Harrison with C. Twigg and J. Nisbet the runners-up.
Teams for the men's pennant trial this coming Saturday are on the noticeboard, so please check and confirm your availability.
As you are aware, sporting clubs play a significant role in the community and also are noted for raising funds in support of worthy causes.
The Kiama Bowling Club and members have always been at the forefront in this regard and so Saturday, April 13 has been set aside as a 'Pink Day' in support of the McGrath Foundation.
Open to all social bowlers and supporters, it will be a day of fun to raise much-needed funds to help place specialist breast cancer nurses into the community.
We are looking for sponsors from the business community, so please contact Ben Cuthbert on 4232 1176.
