THE first round of Jamberoo Bowling Club fours was played over the weekend, in between showers.
Kevin Harris' side, with brothers Des and Craig, and Kevin's son Brian, defeated Brian Moore's team of Glen Murray, Ken Jones (sub) and Alan Pirie 17-13.
It was a close game over the first eight ends, with Harris' team leading narrowly 6-4. However, they then scored eight shots over the next seven ends to lead 14-5. Five of these ends being singles indicated the closeness of the match.
Moore's side won the next three ends to get within four shots at 10-16, but the Harris team held their nerve and led by seven shots (17-10) going into the last end, and finally won the match 17-13.
In another first round match, Warren Duncan's side of Jim Duley, Ken Cotter and Bob Rodwell had an easy win over Vic East's team of Bob Missingham, Warren Steel and Ray Keating 29-7. After leading 8-5 after eight ends, Duncan's team won nine of the next 10 ends to set up an unbeatable lead with only four ends to play.
Wet weather ruled out social bowls during the past week. The pennant teams travel to Gerringong on Saturday at 1pm for a trial game. Cards called at 12.45pm. Club colours worn.
