Revellers flock to Kiama celebrations

Snags, flags and sand were the order of the day, with families flocking to Australia Day celebrations at Kiama’s beaches and parks.

The Kiama Downs Surf Life Saving Club and Minnamurra Rotary Club cooked bacon, eggs and sausages for 500 people at Jones Beach this morning, followed by sand modelling, thong throwing and the annual Brickie’s Relay.

Celebrations there will continue into the afternoon.

At Reid Park in Jamberoo, the Red Cross branch and Jamberoo Rural Fire Brigade put on a spread and games, while additional breakfasts were held at the Kiama and Gerringong surf clubs.

Eight new citizens were welcomed to Australia at a ceremony in Kiama’s Hindmarsh Park.

The 165th Kiama Show also continued with the Heritage Camel Derby fireworks finale.
