Ladies major singles starts

THE Kiama Bowling Club ladies commenced their 2013 championships this week with the major singles.

In the first round, C. Rymer def M. Sultana 25-12 and V. Collins def J. Clowes also 25-12. J. Hair went through after J. Brownlie had to forfeit their match.

The second round included a couple of close matches with A. Evans def B. Campbell 25-22, G. Hodgson def M. Minet 25-21, S. Read def J. McIntyre 25-12. G. O'Donnell def M. Leon 25-19, M. Walker def M. Partridge 25-12 and J. Hair def V. Collins 25-6.

The ladies' social bowls on Tuesday was played in near perfect conditions and the winners were G. Reynolds, B. Campbell, J. Hair and M. Minet. V. Ryder, V. Blake and C. Parkinson were the runners-up.

On Wednesday, our men had a much cooler day and the winners were B. Harris, R. Blake and D. Hatton. M. Whittaker and G. Clowes were the lucky runners-up.

The Thursday men played nominated pairs in top conditions and the winners were C. Twigg and J. Nisbet, with J. Mears and T. Jones the runners-up.

Saturday men's social bowls was won by M. Yalden, J. Mears and R. Netherclift, with A. Van Zanen and I. Baird the runners-up.

Our Australia Day special afternoon was a great event.

We enjoyed a good turnout of barefoot bowlers of all ages making the most of the music, food and the social atmosphere around the club.
