Lake Illawarra have continued their superb 2011-12 South Coast Cricket season by taking out their second successive one-day crown after thumping Warilla Sports at Howard Fowles Oval last Sunday.
The Lakers won the toss and sent the Kookaburras in to bat and the visitors struggled from the outset and were eventually dismissed for 116, scored off 42.3 overs.
Duncan Maddinson top scored with 22, Callum deBruyn made 17 and Ben Mitchell and Gerard Healey made 16 each.
First-change bowler, left-armer Ryan Smith, produced his best spell of the season to take 4/33 off his ten overs and he was well supported by Brendan White (2/18), Shane Cody (2/23) and Mark Ulcigrai (1/7 off eight overs).
Skipper Tony McCabe and David Lambert gave the Lakers a slow but steady start, with Lambert falling for 10 and McCabe top-scoring with an aggressive 43 before both were dismissed by Mitchell.
But it proved to be too little, too late for the Kookas as Brendan White (27 not out) and Nathan Tyrell (24 not out) completed the eight wicket win.
McCabe was delighted with the performance in his side's fifth one-day final in the past six years.
"The bowlers set things up, backed up by some great fielding and it was a really strong performance," McCabe said.
Meanwhile the heavy rain throughout last week meant that all Saturday games were washed out, meaning this week's second day of games will become one-dayers.
The draw will feature The Rail hosting Lake Illawarra, Kiama are at home against Shellharbour, Gerringong travel to Warilla in the match-of-the-round, while Oak Flats are at home against Albion Park.
