KIAMA'S Citizen of the Year Myrtle Hartenstein has packed a lot into her 85 years, working on community causes important to Jamberoo or close to her own heart.
Mrs Hartenstein remembered starting her community service as a little girl.
“I used to ride my horse around Jamberoo during World War II collecting for the Red Cross,” she said.
Later, she fundraised to build the Jamberoo Youth Hall, was a founding member of the Pony Club and worked towards securing a riding ground at Jerrara.
She was a founding member of the Jamberoo CWA, is an Anglican Church Guild committee member and also founded the Mission Aid Group.
When her husband Les needed kidney dialysis, she began work for the Dialysis Association.
For 30 years, she took bookings and lent the keys for the Jamberoo Tennis Club.
“It was like an open house,” she said with a laugh.
“I think I’ve done pretty well over the years - life’s what you make it.”
