THE day six-year-old Brianna Cvetkoski proclaimed, “mummy, I want to cut my hair off”, her mother Vera thought she was just tired of her long locks.
“Then she knocked me for six and made me cry with, ‘I want to give it to kids who don’t have hair, kids with cancer’,” Mrs Cvetkoski said.
“That was the end of me. She is the most amazing little girl.”
Mrs Cvetkoski wasn’t certain what sparked her daughter’s decision, but since that conversation last April hadn’t changed her mind.
The Unanderra Public School Year 1 student and Cordeaux Heights resident has been growing her hair most of her life and it has now reached her hips.
While she won’t be shaving her head, her hair is now long enough to cut to her shoulders to donate 35cm of it.
“Since she came to us with this revelation she has been growing her hair long enough to cut and send to the wigmakers,” Mrs Cvetkoski said.
“She’s a very determined little girl.”
Mrs Cvetkoski asked the public to help Brianna raise money for the Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave and help her reach her target.
Brianna has reached her first goal of $900 and is now working towards a new target of $1700.
“The money you give will help fund important research into leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma and other blood disorders,” Mrs Cvetkoski said.
When asked about her reasons for cutting her hair, Brianna said, “it’s a nice thing to do” and “it feels good”.
“I can’t wait, I am so excited,” she said.
