Young guns fire up

The Delaney’s Cakes Under 16Bs thumped Thirroul at home on Saturday.
Kiama won the toss and sent Thirroul in, bowling them out in the 29th over for 123.
Ben Cavanagh top scored with 31 and Brandon Roddis was next best with 24. Best of the Kiama bowlers were Stephen Boothroyd with 3/18 and Claeg Wilson with 3/21.
In reply, Kiama overhauled the total in the 25th over for the loss of only four wickets. Ethan McIntosh again top-scored with 69 including five sixes. Daniel Cooper was next best with 13 and shared in an 80-run partnership for the 4th wicket.
The Kiama Golf Club 14Bs journeyed to Keith Irvine Oval for a local derby against Jamberoo. Unfortunately, Kiama lost by 49 runs but enjoyed a much-improved result. Jamberoo batted first and scored a commendable 9/132 off 27 overs. Kiama’s best bowlers were Joshua Dean 2/11 and Sam McDonald 2/12.
Kiama batted well and held their wickets to be 7/83 at stumps. Reece Conley top scored with 27.
The Cronin and Norris 12As played their second game of the season against Albion Park Rail. Kiama fielded brilliantly with Nathan McPhail (two run outs) and Matt Panecasio (one run out) both hitting the stumps with direct throws. Brendan Pollard, Liam Case and Matt Panecasio each took two wickets and The Rail was all out for 96.
In reply, Mitchell Scott batted the house down during his 30 not out. As the game got close Kiama maintained their composure with some great running between the wickets. Brad Clapham steered the team home with 15 not out, batting very well under pressure. Kiama passed the score with five wickets down and one over remaining.
The Cronin and Norris 12B Blue team were undermanned in their match against Lake at Gainsborough Oval. Kiama batted first and were 4/73 at the end of their 30 overs, Thomas Norris and Liam Negus sharing a good opening partnership of 31. The Kiama team had the Lakers in trouble at 6/31 before they reached the Kiama total. Liam Negus bowled well to take 2/7 and Dylan Morris was great in the field.
The Kiama Rugby Club U10A Gold team won the toss and elected to face the Shellharbour attack. Kiama struggled against some excellent bowling and were bowled out in 19 overs for 63. Clayton Gelfius top-scored for Kiama with 14 runs.
Kiama’s bowling attack was unable to restrict Shellharbour, who finished at 3/64 off 17 overs.
The Greg Rodgers and Associates 10a Blue team played Lake Illawarra, who won the toss and sent Kiama in. The opening partnership between Callan Thistlethwaite (30 retired) really set the pace for the rest of the Kiama batters, particularly Thomas Murray’s 25 not out. At the end of Kiama’s 30 overs they were 3/143.
The outstanding batting performance was followed by great bowling. Callan took 4/3, Jake Willick 2/2 and Oliver Dowswell 2/6, bowling the opposition out for 63.
