Work starts on club upgrade

KIAMA Leagues Club is creating two new outdoor terraces in upgrades to the club, which will take about three months to complete.

General manager Stephen Marks said construction started last week with the club"s outside being boarded up and one corner knocked out.

The upgrade will include smoking and non-smoking outdoor terraces and new toilets.

These will be built on the lower floor, in the area where the mixed lounge is now located.

"This will give our members the best opportunity to sit in the open air and enjoy the views," Mr Marks said.

The outdoor terrace will mean the club will have an area that can still be used for smoking after the enclosed areas smoking ban comes into effect in July

He said the building will cost about $800,000. The expected completion date is May 30.
