JOHN Brownlie and Martin Wilson are the Kiama Bowls 2007 Club Pairs Champions after they defeated Bill Gorissen and Geoff McIntyre in the final on Sunday, 25-16.
Brownlie and Wilson gained a 6-1 lead early in the match before Gorissen and McIntyre fought back to lead 9-7 after eight ends.
Brownlie then showed his class with some brilliant bowls and he and Wilson picked up a four shots on the ninth end.
Wilson and Brownlie were ahead by four shots for most of the match.
They trailed 11-16 with five ends to play but were unable to bridge the gap.
With one end left Gorissen and McIntyre required eight shots to force a draw, but Brownlie and Wilson were victorious by 11 shots.
The pairs is Wilson's third title of 2007 to go with the Major Singles and Club Fours, a feat that has not been achieved at Kiama for some years.
Brownlie and Wilson booked their finals berth with a 22-11 win over D. Barnes and P. O'Keefe.
Gorissen and McIntyre made the final after beating J. Mears and R. Netherclift 21-13.
Two games of Triples were also played with Rolls family (in defence of their 2006 title) off to a great start, thumping A. Williams, D. Wicken and R. Walsh 47-6.
Competition favourites M. Pepper, B. Archer and M. Ganderton defeated B. Hair, R. Walker and M. Hair 29-11.
Congratulations to Paul Bentley and Thanaporn Monmuang who were married on Saturday.
Paul who is an "infrequent, very average bowler" is known more for his one-liners than his bowling ability.
They include "Godie get out of the head", "Sorry, I'm have'n trouble get'n up" and "I think I need more grass".
It is noted some great bowlers have carried him into a couple of finals.
