BRENDAN CRABB

EXCUSE me sir, but where's the whale gone?

Well, Captain Ahab can rest comfortably in his watery grave, because the well-known whale sign recently disappeared from the shopping complex formerly known as Kiama Fair.

"We've had a few queries about where he went and why," said new Centro Kiama centre manager Chris Norton.

"It's because the centre has been purchased by Centro; it's the usual major company branding name change."

High-profile company Centro Properties Group recently assumed ownership of the centre.

The company owns and operates several major shopping centres in Australia and overseas.

These include Centro Bankstown, one of Sydney's largest shopping complexes, and Centro Albion Park.

Mr Norton said that although the familiar whale that dominated the front of the complex for many years had now gone for a long, deep swim, the shopping centre would remain the same as before.

"There's all of the same shops and shopkeepers; basically all the regular people are still here," he said.

"Nothing's changed on the inside, just the name on the outside, so it's business as usual."
