ONE of the most talented junior surfers in the world Gerroas Dean Bowen has taken out the Billabong Tajs Small Fries under 16 competition in Western Australia .
Held last Sunday the event, held at Yallingup, is named after world number four-ranked surfer Taj Burrow who grew up and still lives in the town.
Impressing early in the contest with an 8.67 ride, Bowen dominated the final with a 8.77 point second wave and a 8.17 ride on his fourth to blow away his rivals. As Bowen picked up similarities in the competition on the east coast.
The level of competition was pretty similar to what it is like in the east, said Bowen. It was really hard, and I came a long way so Im stoked to take it out, he said.
Its a great event, its really prestigious and its good to have Taj (Burrow) watching over you, it makes you want to surf so much better.
