A RAIN interrupted day of cricket resulted in a tough day for all grades of Kiama Cricket Club.

First grade were unable to repeat their second round win over Oak Flats at Geoff shaw Oval.

The Rats outclassed the Cavs in all facets after setting a total of 9/231 from their 50 overs.

While Brett Moran top scored with 43, Paul Suttor (37), Michael Atkinson (36), Colin Yeaman (34) and Rob McMahon (27) all made valuable contributions.

Dale Scifleet was best with the ball and continued his outstanding season with figures of 3/44. Glen Clearey (2/55) and Matt OBrien (2/42) chipped in with two wickets each.

" Oak Flats top order batsman Paul Suttor continued his impressive start to the season with 37against Kiama last weekend.

At home, second grade batted first against Lake first with captain Steve Holz (68) leading from the front.

Andrew Ross (44), Xavier Mayes (30) and the return of one of Kiamas favourite sons, John Watts (22) provided solid support as Kiama posted a solid total of 221 before a rain delay revised the total to 210.

In defence of their total, Kiama were able to capture an early wicket courtesy of Dan Reilly (1/30).

In his 100th game for the club, Luke Bombaci was given the captaincy of third grade in the replay from last years grand final.

with Lake cruising at a run a ball it was the spin of Jason Wills (3/37) that applied the breaks.

Wickets were shared between Matt Cook (2/40), Frank Weir (2/36) and Robbie Wakeham (2/58) as Lake Illawarra finished their innings on the score of 217.

In the run chase, the opening partnership of Jeff Lawler (36) and Luke Bombaci (29) got Kiama off to a strong start.

Wills then backed up his bowling with a useful 18, giving Kiama some hope of an unlikely win.

However the side faltered with the loss of Kiama collapsed and loss nine wickets for 35 runs. Suffering a 98 run defeat after being all out for 119.

Kiamas fourth grade were looking to back up from their first victory of the season as they took on Oak Flats.

After losing the toss and bowling first, Kiama were able to apply endless pressure with tight bowling from Josh Runge (2/18) and Tim Rossiter (2/17)

Ben Piper (3/47) and Rob Ellsmore (2/21) also snared wickets as Kiama were able to bowl Oak Flats out for a respectable 162.

In reply, Kiama struggled to chase down the total with the team unable to truly recover from the loss of early wickets.

A lone stand of 79 by Matt Stewart was the only highlight of the Kiama innings. No other batsman made it into double figures as Kiama were dismissed for 112 to lose by 50 runs.
