AFTER a memorable Surf Life Saving summer that saw her win one gold and? two silvers at the Australian Surf Lifesaving Championships, Kiamas Jane Ware has set about proving her talents on flat water after dominating the NSW CHS Canoeing Championships, in Grafton two weeks ago.
Competing in the open events despite being only 15, spectators were most impressed when Jane powered home in the K1 5000m race, winning by over a minute.
Jane went onto to record victories in the K1 and K2 500m and it was the K2 500m that most pleased Jane and her partner Elissa Helmer of Oak Flats, due to the two months training they had put in together prior to the championships.
Jane is currently heading into a tough training program in the lead up to the Junior World Kayaking Championships where she hopes to make the Australian team to contest the sprint events (K 500m).
Jane started kayaking after advice from Marty Smith of Barrack-Point Surf Lifesaving club advised it would improve her ski leg in surf lifesaving and hasnt looked back since with outstanding results.
Ware is set to return to Warilla Barrack Point this season after a successful year at Cronulla, looking forward to returning to the coaching of Smith.
Martys son David is a member of the Australian national Kayaking team who recently toured Europe for the world championships, Making the semi-finals of the K2 500m in Duisberg, Germany, ensuring Jane doesnt have to look far for inspiration.
I admire the way Dave is committed to his training, he is so focused and never skips a session. She said.
The Illawarra Academy of Sport athlete has recently attended core stability training at Wollongong Uni and even added media skills training to her hectic schedule.
