Kiama second grade opening batsman Matt Unicomb has his own special place in the history books of Kiama Cricket Club after scoring 178 against Shellharbour last weekend.

KIAMA second grade opening batsman Matt Unicomb has scored the sixth highest score in Kiama Cricket Clubs history after posting 178 against Shellharbour at Kiama Leisure Centre Sporting Complex last weekend.

Armed with his trusty Grey Niccols, handed down by his father, the century was Unicombs first for Kiama and fourth in total, Unicomb reflected recently on his innings.

The four before were in reps so it was good to

finally get one for Kiama, he said.

His marathon innings came to a close shortly after tea, where his captain had given the 17-year-old five overs to post the elusive double ton. The hunt for quick runs went slightly against the grain for the more patient Unicomb who credited patience as being the key on what was an absolute belter of a wicket.

I was on 160 at tea and I didnt attack a lot during my innings. Patience is my game, so I base it around defence and just hit the bad balls. Dad was there for about my last 40 runs, which was good and I was

pretty sore and tired for a few days after it.

I played a bit of firsts last season and the first game this year and I would like to play some more this

season, he added.

Having represented South Coast throughout his junior years he was rewarded with selection in Southern country NSW last season and with further honours firmly within his grasp Unicomb has rightly earned his place into the history books of Kiama Cricket Club, with the highest score in second grade.
