KIAMA travelled north this weekend for a successful day of rugby against Tech-Tahs, winning 2 from 3 grades.
Third grade started the day playing out a hard fought victory against the 2006 premiers.
The first half was fast and physical and saw both sides missing out on scoring opportunities through great defence.
Kiama were good in attack, led by Mick "Swindel" Kent and Chopper in the halves and Austin Statham out wide.
However, neither side was able to post points in the first half.
In the second half, the scorching conditions took their toll on the players and the match was up for grabs.
Mick Horner tackled his heart out leaving no way through for the opposition..
Tech finally broke the deadlock with a penalty goal.
Just as the game looked over, Ryan "Slug" Paget, in his first game back from retirement, scored the decisive try in the corner.
Kiama held on for a 7-3 victory. Three points went to Nick Graham, two points to Harley, who was playing his first game for Kiama and one point to Tim Mathie and big Reece Genat up front. Player"s player went to Mick Horner.
Second grade came out of the sheds fired up ready for a big match, only to let Tech score in the opening minutes.
Kiama hit back shortly after through a charged down try to Richie Payne.
From there the game tightened up as both teams defended strongly.
The second half saw Kiama have a lapse in concentration and let Tech score a couple of quick tries against the run of play.
Kiama"s back row were magnificent, leading the pack around the field.
Another stand-out was big Gus Richmond, who was great at the break down and led from the front in defence.
The game got away from Kiama with Tech winning the grand final rematch 31-16. Three points went to Richie Payne, two points to Matty Archer, who is playing great rugby on the side, one point and player"s player to Scotty Duncan.
First grade knew they would be up for a very fast and physical game and that is exactly what they got.
Kiama came out of the blocks with high intensity which saw them get the first two tries on the board thanks to Urima and Magic.
The boys then slowed down a little, which saw Tech score a try and penalty goal before half time.
The half time score was 14-8 and the match was still there to be won. The second half was even as both sides worked hard up front and showed great skill in the backline.
Kiama lost Nugget, Craig and Ian to injuries however the reserves came on and did their job brilliantly.
Kiama stayed patient and finally the points came scoring three more tries and taking the game out of Tech"s grasp.
The pleasing thing for Kiama was that it was the third week in a row that they didn"t let the opposition score in the second half.
Kiama"s best were Urima who received 3 points, 2 points to Quinny who once again demonstrated why he"s the number 1 fly half in the comp, 1 point and players player to Craig who was outstanding at the break down. Baiden was also fanatastic at fullback pulling off a couple of great try savers and troubling Tech in attack.
Kiama are at home this weekend to Bowral in all three grades. So everyone head down to Kiama Showground and cheer on the boys.
