KIAMA Representative basketball teams headed to Albury for round two of the Southern Junior League on the weekend.

The under 16 girls made a fantastic start, going down to Illawarra White by one basket, 50-48. Sheridan Jones top-scored with 20 points for Kiama.

Illawarra Red inflicted a heavy 102-25 defeat before Kiama bounced back with a strong performance against the Albury Cougars before going down 57-43.

In under 18 boys, the Kiama teams had contrasting fortunes. Kiama One defeated Queanbeyan Roadrunners 69-66 in a nail biting finish. Kiama were up 60-43 at three quarter time before Queanbeyan scorted 23 points to nine in the fourth quarter.

Kiama One then lost to the Albury Cougars 80-65, before defeating the Shoalhaven Tigers 72-51.

Shoalhaven produced a physical game and matched Kiama until the third quarter. However, foul-trouble forced the Tigers to change their game plan, allowing Kiama to win the fourth quarter 27-6.

Kiama Two, the younger Under 18 Boys development side, were humbled but kept their heads high. They lost to Wagga Wagga, 90-32; to Shoalhaven, 92-45 and to Queanbeyan 112-42.

In the Junior Mixed Division of the Kiama competition the Banana Splits beat the Gladiators 14-7.

The Blue Skeletons defeated the Cyclones 22-18, Tim Stewardson scoring a game high 10 points for the Skeletons.

In Intermediate Boys; the Flames dominated the Wolves 44-10 with Lucas Young putting in a strong performance scoring 22 points. The Hawkes (as in former prime minister, Bob!) beat the Dragons 21-16.

In the Senior Boys competition the Flying Albinos outscored the Pool Sharks 62-47 while the Hawks downed Carlton FC 60-55 in a close battle.
