Touch title for Kiama

KIAMA High's great touch football run continued when its open girls touch team won the NSW CHS Championship at Wagga recently.
The decider was a dream match-up as the Kiama girls faced the hosts.
Wagga were defending their state title while Kiama won the CHS crown in 2005.
Furthermore, the teams played a thriller in the round match, with Wagga winning 3-2.
The final proved a nailbiter, requiring a drop-off to separate the teams.
Wagga scored first to put the pressure on early, however a diving try to Rebekah Tobin leveled the score.
Wagga soon hit back and held onto the 2-1 lead until the final seconds, when a try to Amy Regal leveled the scores.
The referee blew his whistle to award the try at the same time as the full-time siren sounded.
In the ensuing drop-off play see-sawed from end to end until, with four players each left on the field, a long pass from Regal was safely fielded by unmarked winger Ashleigh Scott, who scored the match-winner.
Kiama High is now the 2007 zone, area and state girls touch champions.
They won a competition that started in term one with over 200 teams.
Standout players were NSWCHS open representatives Amy Regal and Bianca Mounsey, and NSWCHS under 16s representative Kristi Pan. Other highlights included the play of Katelin Meredith, Lara Hughes, Ashleigh Scott and Aimee Barnard.
The support play and defensive shutdown from links Nadine Dryburgh, Rebekah Downes and Nicole Lewis was important to Kiama's win. Rebekah Tobin saved Kiama's skin in the final with a number of try-saving dives while Ashleigh Dowd and Kimberley Abbott worked hard in the middle.
Special thanks to referee Cody Thomas and the many parents for their support and cheering.
