THE FUTURE of Kiama Little Athletics Club is assured after a successful AGM saw five new appointees to the committee for the 2007-08 season.

After initial jitters that the committee would be shorthanded due to an exodus of volunteers, fears were alleviated when five new members stepped into the breach.

Dave Cowgill (Vice President), Beth Moon (Secretary and Publicity Officer), Kathy Hewitt (Registrar), Steve Chard (Recorder) and Darren Moon (General Committee) have put their hand up for the upcoming season.

Returning president Craig Scott said the outcome was fantastic for the club.

"When you get people to give their time for nothing its just fantastic," he said.

"There comes a time when new people have to come in.

"We were a bit worried about what might happen but having five new people on the committee is an excellent result."

2006-07 was a marquee year for Kiama Little Athletics Club; it attracted 231 athletes, an all-time record.

On the track, Kiama had an outstanding season. Their athletes competed at a variety of carnivals around the state.

Talissa Scott helped Kiama snare its first gold medal at a State Multi event, while the March Past team did the Centre proud too by winning the Zone and Regional titles for the 2nd time in 3 years

Kiama Little Athletics Centre was also the first sporting body in NSW awarded Level "0" accreditation by the Australian Drug Foundation for its Good Sports Program

Kiama Little Athletics Club named its first ever Life Members, Gary and Janet Poppett, who have been the backbone of the club for many years.

The 2006-07 season also saw the installation of the long jump pits, which involved a huge investment of time and money. Generous support for this upgrade was received from Grindley Constructions, Kiama District Sports Association and Kiama Municipal Council.

With the closing of this season, Kiama bids farewell to its two under 15 athletes, Tanya Poppett and Janaya Zivkovic, who between them have a combined total of 17 years in Little Athletics.

Kiama Little Athletics would like to thank its major sponsor, AllClear Leafguard & Gutter, and associate sponsors Kiama Downs Pharmacy, City Coast Credit Union, Zink Surf and Fotosportz for their continued support.
