Tennis kids a smash hit

LOCAL players stood out at the 21st Kiama/Shellharbour Tennis Association/BlueScope Steel round robin on the weekend.
The tournament was held at courts around Kiama and Jamberoo and attracted 70 entries from the South East region, which stretches from Helensburgh to the Victorian border and out to Goulburn, Queanbeyan and the Snowy Mountains.
Oak Flats’ Dael McKenna won the under 16 girls singles and teamed up with Kiama’s Hannah Jones to reach the doubles final.
Jamberoo’s Allison Corfield defeated Albion Park Rail’s Kate Lynch in the under 14 girls singles final while Jamberoo’s Chantelle Fausset (third) and Laura Rutledge-Robb (fourth) also impressed.
Corfield and Rutledge-Robb Winners combined to win the doubles against Albion Park’s Caitlin Emmerich and Katelyn Head. Brittany Gray of Oak Flats won the under 12 doubles and made the singles final.
In the boys Alex Hoerning (final), Alex Smith (semis) and Brendan Smith (quarters) went deep into the under 16 singles draw.
Alex Hoerning and Bryce Hoerning meanwhile combined to win the under 16 doubles.
In the under 14s, Mackenzie Edwards of Albion Park won the under 14 singles while Warilla’s Daniel Mitchell finished third.
Jarrod Turk of Albion Park won the under 10 doubles against Kiama’s Bjorn Myers.

Tournaments like the weekend’s event are stepping stones for competitors who wish to take their tennis to higher levels in the future.

That Allison Corfield is going to be pro one day. I've heard great things about her! Also Kate Lynch is doing well. Congrats girls!
