ALL around Kiama, people are polishing their teapots and getting biscuits ready for Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea next week.

Easts Beach Holiday Park will be hosting a morning tea on Thursday, May 22, with auctions, raffles and lucky door prizes to raise money for the Cancer Council.

“We’re dedicating this event to the memory of Robert East, who bravely fought his own battle with cancer for five years and succumbed to it in January 2006,” the park’s assistant manager Loneen McLeod said.

“Robert was passionate about many things, but helping those who needed it most was his goal in life. The East family and staff wish to follow his lead and what better way to bring the community together than enjoying a morning tea and donating all proceeds to the Cancer Council?”

Another feature of the morning will be a display of some of the 650 extraordinary teapots collected by Robert’s wife, Judith, during the past 30 years.

Ms McLeod said the morning tea would run from 10am to noon, but people needed to make bookings with reception staff on 4232 2124 for catering purposes.

Also on Thursday, the Gerringong community will host a morning tea in Gerringong Town Hall.

Organiser Dorothy Hanbridge said the jugs would be boiled by 9.30am and tea and treats would continue being served until people stopped coming.

This is the third year the morning tea had been held in the town hall.

“It’s $5 for the morning tea and if anyone wants to give us any more, we’ll take it,” Mrs Hanbridge said.

LJ Hooker Kiama is holding a Biggest Morning Tea to celebrate its re-branding and office move while raising money for cystic fibrosis research.

Their morning tea, also on Thursday, will run from 10am to 11.30am.

“We will be offering cake and a cup of tea for a $5 donation,” LJ Hooker’s Amy Bowles said.

“The Mr Hooker Bear will be coming to town and be attending our morning tea and we will have tote bags, cookbooks and wristbands on sale on the day.”
