Wollongong Game and Fishing Club has come to the rescue of Kiama Surf Life Saving Club to replace a missing life buoy at Minnamurra.
The Game and Fishing Club gave the surf club a new life buoy to replace one that disappeared recently at Minnamurra River.
Kiama Surf Life Saving Club emergency co-ordinator Murray McMillan said there were several missing life buoys at locations around the Illawarra, such Bass Point and Windang Island.
"They are critical tools for saving lives and they need to be there," Mr McMillan said.
The rescue equipment at Kiama's Surf Beach were vital to a surf rescue earlier this month when a woman and two children got caught in a rip.
Two local men used the available rescue tubes to bring the woman and children to shore.
Mr McMillan said he was unsure why the life buoys kept disappearing.
"I don't know if people are throwing them into the water for a joke, or why they go missing," he said, "But we have lost a lot through the years."
