Return thanks for a township which cares

ON WEDNESDAY, February 24 at 11.30am, my car broke down in the middle of the road at the busy end of Shoalhaven St.
The car was blocking both carriageways. As soon as I tried to push the car to the side of the road, a lady joined me and we got it moving. Her husband then joined us and we got the car to the gutter.
The couple waited while I checked under the bonnet and then asked could they be of any more help. I borrowed their mobile phone to ring the NRMA.
There was about an hour delay until the NRMA arrived. I asked at the computer shop to use their toilet. Of course.
Later, the woman from the shop brought me a cool drink. The NRMA man said the car would have to be towed to a garage. He let me choose the garage. I asked could I use his phone to telephone my wife. Of course.
There was a wait of more than an hour. A lady from the flats opposite appeared with a parcel for me: a full bottle of iced water and a packet of iced vovo biscuits. She graciously brushed away my thanks.
When the big tow truck arrived it was obvious that we would have to push the car back into the road. As we started, a young man arrived and pushed very strongly.
He left before I could thank him. At the garage, Mrs Hart was most concerned for me. She rang her husband, who was on his way back from hospital, to hurry back to drive me home.
After I arrived home, a friend rang to say that he had seen the car at Hart’s garage and did I need a lift anywhere or any help.
This is a good town.
