MARY Poppins blows into town on March 27 to launch the Kiama Sunset Film Festival, and there’s a spoon full of sugar for everyone.

To celebrate the magic of Mary Poppins, filmgoers are encouraged to make as many four-lettered words as they can from the title of one of the movie’s best-known songs, Sifragilisticexpialidocious, with the prize being a free pass to the next festival movie, The Sound of Music.

Entry forms are available from the Kiama Independent office, 16-20 Manning Street, Kiama and are to be handed in at the entrance to the film festival at Black Beach on March 27. The cost to enter is a $1 coin donation.

Rotarian and event organiser Charmaine Wheatley said the festival’s three family film events would feature a jumping castle, face painting and Rotary barbecue.

Two films are to be shown at Black Beach, Kiama – Mary Poppins on March 27 at 7pm and The Sound of Music on April 24 at 6pm. Then there’s a drive-in film event at the Riding for the Disabled Association Centre, Mount Brandon Road, Jerrara on May 15 with the screening of The Lion King.

This year also marks the 40th birthday of the centre’s horse Cosy. “That makes him 124 years old in human years,” Mrs Wheatley said. His birthday will be celebrated at the Lion King film event, with a cake of 40 carrots.

The two Black Beach films will raise money for the Spirit of uBuntu Project and the drive-in will raise money for the Riding for the Disabled Association.

Mrs Wheatley said that Rotary Australia World Community Service supports the development and management of international community service projects, such as the Spirit of uBuntu Project at Welkom.

Tickets to the film festival can be purchased from Furniture One, Manning Street and cost $10 for adults and $5 for children under 10 and a family pass is $25 (two adults, two children). Filmgoers can bring their own chairs. The rainy day venue is The Pavilion, Kiama. Tickets for the drive-in are $25 per car.
