KIAMA CAVALIERS

ROCKET REILLY

KIAMA had a solid start to the South Coast cricket campaign with a win against Albion Park and a tight loss to Oak Flats in the Twenty20 opener.

On Saturday, Kiama played well beyond themselves to rack up a victory against the Park.

After Skipper Dale Scifleet lost the toss and was sent into bat Kiama started steadily with a 26 run partnership between Scifleet (18) and Matt Unicomb (7).

After the pair fell in consecutive deliveries, Andrew Ross (19) and man of the match Tim Wolf took on the Eagles' bowlers and put together a handy partnership of 41

Jason Wills then made 9 on his Twenty20 debut before Steven Holz (29) and Wolf (45) put on an unbeaten 46-run stand and helped Kiama to 4/128 off their 20 overs.

Another Twenty20 debutant, Matt Bond, claimed a wicket in his first over during Albion Park's innings before finishing with 1-19 off three overs.

Mick Norris (1/24/4) and Matt Unicomb (1/21/3) then tied down both ends with some timely dot balls and a wicket each.

Park seemed to be cruising along comfortably until Jordan Inwood's spell of 2/17 took Park to 5/94 at the end of the 15th over.

Daniel Reilly (2/18/4) and Andrew Ross (2/13/2.3) then put the nails in the Albion Park coffin as they crashed to be all out for 123 in the 19th over.

Dale Scifleet's gamble not to bowl himself seemed to have paid off, while the win put Kiama into the semi-final against Oak Flats at Gerringong.

Scifleet this time won the toss and had Kiama batting first on an interesting wicket.

Trouble struck early when Matt Unicomb fell for 1 in the second over, but Scifleet and Andrew Ross (15) steadied the ship with a 47-run partnership.

The wheels fell off Kiama's innings from then on and Scifleet's lone hand of 42 was the highlight of Kiama's modest total of 98.

When Oak Flats batted, Matt Bond was again in the wickets finishing with 2/22 off his 4 overs, while Scifleet who lead the way with 2/15 off his 4.

Mick Norris (1/24/4) and Andrew Ross (1/15/3) provided some support, but Oak Flats scampered across the finish line in the 18th over with 4 wickets in hand.
