THERE were vastly-reduced numbers at Kiama Little A’s point score on Friday due to the weekend’s Zone Championships, but competition was still keenly contested with some fine performances in most age groups.
Katie Robinson smashed her personal best in the under 14 high jump.
Rydge Smith jumped well in the under 9 long jump and Tiarn East flew down the track in the under 8s 60m hurdles.
Aron Cox and Michael Robinson also ran strongly in the under 8s 400m while Keiran Poppett tried his hardest in the under 11 shot put.
With so many of the committee and regular volunteers unavailable, many parents stepped up to help out for the first time.
Volunteers are the lifeblood of the little athletics movement and we at Kiama Little As are thankful of the excellent support of our athletes’ parents.
The club would like to congratulate our athletes and officials who were great ambassadors at the Zone Championships over the weekend.
There were many outstanding performances and we had many representatives qualify for the Region 5 Championships in Wellington in February.
A full report will appear in next week’s Kiama Independent.
