The dream of singing in front of 10,00 people will soon be fulfilled for 13 students from Kiama High School as they prepare to perform at the 2008 Schools Spectacular.

Celebrating its 25th birthday this year, the 2008 Schools Spectacular promises to be bigger and better than ever and will include almost 3000 student performers.

The Kiama High School vocal group will have a featured role in the showcase, performing a cappella “gospel-style” songs.

Kiama High School music teacher Terry Wilde has been a part of the Schools Spectacular for 20 years but, for his students, it will be a first time experience.

“It is a big deal for them, singing in front of 10,000 people,” he said.

“It is the highlight of their musical career.”

The Kiama High School Vocal Group has featured in the Schools Spectacular from 1990 to 2004.

After two years of absence, the 2008 Year 11 and 12 students have returned to feature in this year’s performance.

In 2006 and twice in 2007, the group was selected to perform at Sydney Opera House – an honour for any budding musician.

The spectacular has launched the careers of many of Australia’s most popular performers and a number of those will return to make guest appearances in this year’s show.

Featuring a 1200-voice choir, an 80-piece orchestra, 1500 dancers and talented soloists from ages five to 18, this year’s spectacular is sure to be a seamless production.

The 2008 Schools Spectacular will be staged at Sydney Entertainment Centre on Friday, November 28, at 1pm (preview) and at 8pm on Saturday, November 29, at 2pm and 8pm.

Tickets are $57 for adults and $37 for students and concessions and can be bought through Ticketmaster.
