Kiama U16a captain Ben Czrykowski led by example with a hard hitting century against Port Kembla recently.

KIAMA junior cricketer Ben Czrykowski notched up his third century last week against Port Kembla in the combined Illawarra and south coast junior cricket competition.

The hard-hitting century included 17 boundaries and two sixes, the innings started well for the 16-year-old, who recently recalled his innings.

I didnt expect to get a lot but I just kept hitting fours everywhere, he said.

I got to 50 and was seeing them like watermelons. At drinks I knew I was in the 80s and I was really tired. I hit a four and a six to bring up the hundred and the six went close to 20m over the rope, he added.

The Kiama U16s side has been struggling but for Czrykowski, who also captains the side, the teams first win was memorable.

It was my first win as captain as well. We really bowled to our field for one game and there is no reason we cant do it again.

The talented teenager also plays second grade for Gerringong and recently captured 3/36, ironically against Kiama, bowling off spin. The plan now is to knuckle down and hopefully be a part of ensuring Gerringong returns to the first grade competition.

I am not the most talented player I just get stuck in and really try hard.

It will be good to actually get up into Sydney for first grade and I really hope Gerringong get back into first grade. One more year we will be all set. We will be dominating twos next year, he added.
