Kiama Showgirl for 2007 is Pip Yabsley pictured above at the show with her friend Rachael McBeath who was runner up.

PIP Yabsley is the proud winner of the 2007 Kiama Showgirl competition.

While dark clouds threatened to rain on the 2007 showgirl parade, nothing could wipe the beaming smile from the 22-year-olds face after hearing her name and winner read out in the same sentence.

What excited Pip, most was not just the win but also her best friend Rachael McBeath finishing runner up.

It really is exciting that Rach was runner up after we entered together, she said.

Coming months will see the showgirl journey continue for Pip who is certain to make an impression at the zone final, that is to be held in Dapto in the middle of February.

I guess it is an opportunity to be an advocate for Kiama and I am really excited. Just to be the Kiama winner is a dream spending a couple of days at the show was such an insight and gave me another perspective of Kiama.

The Kiama Showgirl competition could not be successful without the enthusiasm of both the entrants involved and community support it receives, said showgirl coordinator Marie Mete.

Next year we hope to broaden that community and business support and strive to continue to promote the competition for what it truly is the search for an ambassador for Kiama and a voice for young rural women.
