Police search for clues at the scene of last weeks shock shooting incident in Kiama.
A 31-YEAR-OLD Kiama man who was forced to flee his Greyleigh Drive home last Thursday under a hail of bullets is believed to have left the area following the shocking attack.
A police investigation into the alleged shooting is continuing after the man was believed to have been followed home by two men last Thursday night after a road rage incident.
Police say the pair knocked on the front door of the home and were greeted by the victim. A struggled ensued, with the victim running from the property. Its alleged one of the mans two attackers then fired seven shots after the man in the direction of Dudgeon Street.
Its believed the man took refuge in a Finlayson Street property where he stayed until he was sure his attackers had fled the scene.
Police have told the man he can to return to his home but its believed he has left the area while the police investigation is still underway.
" A small army of police descended on Greyleigh Drive, Kiama, last Friday to search for evidence of the alleged shooting.
We have conducted a risk assessment on the mans situation and we believe he will be able to live life as normal at this point, a Lake Illawarra Local Area Command police spokesman said.
We do not believe he is any danger.
An army of police swooped on the area on Friday, with specialist ballistics police, Police Rescue Squad and Riot Squad resources deployed to search for the gunman and any trace of the pistol used in the alleged attack.
Detectives from Wollongong and Shoalhaven were also brought in to assist Lake Illawarra Local Area Command detectives with the investigation.
A specially trained ballistics detection dog and handler were also called in, with the canine successfully locating a number of bullet cartridges at the scene.
We had moderate success with the dog, a Lake Illawarra Police Spokesman said.
He was able to track down several cartridges, but he was unable to locate the scent of the offenders.
Police say at this stage they have no firm leads on the identity of the two men involved.
At this stage there are no suspects, Chief Inspector Wayne O Keefe said.
It is obviously a very rare occurrence for this sort of thing to happen down here and we taking it very seriously.
Police do not believe the pistol allegedly used in the attack was stolen.
