JAMBEROO residents had a big win at the last council meeting after receiving the initial go ahead for a brand new preschool as part of the upgrade to the upgrade School of Arts building.

After being forced to make do with a temporary mobile preschool in the Uniting Church Hall for the past 15 years residents have been seeking a modern permanent facility.

The proposed new preschool will be situated within the School of Arts Building and will cater for up to 30 children.

Featuring a roofed play area , drop off zone, two play rooms as well as a staff room, directors office and kitchen the new facilities will provide children with a much roomier and modern facility than what they have been used to.

I see this as an extremely positive thing for the community, Jamberoo resident and Kiama Councillor Trevor Fredericks said.

There has been a need for a proper preschool facility for some time.

The preschool committee and council both looked at a number facilities but at the end of the day I think choosing the School of Arts building as the suitable site is ideal given that it is a very workable area.

As well as the establishment of a preschool in the former western supper room wing a total upgrade of the building will take place with a utility room and new toilets both set to be implemented.

There has been a huge need to upgrade the kitchen toilet area which this upgrade will do, he said.

From an aesthetic point of view the upgrade should also enhance the overall look of the building. There was an upgrade in the 1980s and I think it is time to do a lot of that sort of aesthetic work again.
