KIAMA Rugby Club's top two grades travelled to Wollongong Uni on Saturday while third grade relaxed with the bye.
Second grade started slowly, allowing Uni to cross for two early tries.
Kiama knuckled down to pressure Uni's defence all over the park, almost scoring on several occasions.
The boys crossed the line with a well-worked forwards move ending up in the capable hands of Ross the Boss.
Kiama played smart rugby, scoring another try just before half time to only trail by two points.
After the break Uni continued to apply the pressure, which resulted in another try.
Although Kiama gave everything it just wasn't their day, with final score 21-15 to Uni.
Kiama's best were Benny Strong at fullback, who proved he was electric in attack and also Stevey Rae, who was very solid in his first start for second grade.
First grade came out of the sheds fired up ready to take on the defending premiers.
Kiama started in sensational style, scoring three early tries.
However after a solid 30 minutes they had a mental lapse and allowed Uni to cross twice before half time, with the visitors taking a 19-14 lead to the sheds.
Kiama applied the pressure early in the second half in both attack and defence.
The front row were making yards up front allowing the backs to work their magic out wide.
Kiama's fitness proved to a great asset as they scored some brilliant tries.
Try scoring machines Urima and Magic picked up three and two tries respectively and demonstrated why they are such valuable players.
Final score was 41-21 to Kiama with best players Trev, who seemed to be everywhere all game, Quinny, who once again led the troops around and Scotty Duncan, who was brilliant at the breakdown.
This weekend Kiama play Vikings and on June 6 play Shamrocks at home.
That will be a top of the ladder clash and should be a ripper of a match.
First grade kicks off at 5pm with the Blowies ball following in the pavilion. Tickets $10.
