Red Cross can be source of fun, friends

FUN, creative, interesting and entertaining while doing some good for the world " that's what joining an Australian Red Cross Branch is all about.

Kathie King recently moved from Sydney to Gerringong.

Kathie didn't know anyone or very much about the community and, having been a professional in Sydney, owning her own company and still young, she wanted to keep up her busy and interesting life.

"Australian Red Cross has always been very prominent in my life," she said.

"It is non-denominational and a great way of learning about the community.

"I never really knew what Red Cross did.

"I had always seen the symbol on the television concerning international issues and emergencies, but I did not know they did so much local community work."

Australian Red Cross is part of the largest humanitarian organisation in the world.

"As I am now a member of the Gerringong Red Cross branch, I am also part of that humanitarian organisation," she said.

"The branch holds monthly meetings, although I cannot always attend.

"That does not mean I am not a committed member of the branch.

"We organise functions for fun or conduct fundraising events.

"We arrange interesting guest speakers at our meetings and all are welcome to come.

"It's a great way to network."

She said that in the Gerringong area there were many baby boomers who would enjoy the social aspect of Red Cross.

"Red Cross is not all about tea and scones; however, that is a very important and yummy pastime," Kathie said.

"I strongly recommend joining your local Red Cross Branch"
