IT WAS a reasonable weekend for the Kiama Cavaliers with thirds and seconds coming off as the victors, while first grade missed out on making it three wins by just two runs.
With the prospect of Albion Park not showing up again this week and their obvious lack of cellular communications, first grade were hesitant to make the trip to Keith Grey.
To their surprise, a wicket had been prepared and a side clustered together.
After losing the toss Kiama were sent into the field and were on top early, having Park 6/45 until some lucky lower order strikes pushed Albion Park to 186.
Skipper Dale Scifleet led the way for Kiama with 3/28, while surprise bowling addition (although he would tell you otherwise) Tim Wolf claimed 2/12.
Mick Norris, Jason Wills and Matt O’Brien snared one wicket each.
Kiama’s reply was directed by Dale Scifleet (77) and Wolf, who put on 111 runs before Nelson got the better of Wolf for 42.
Dale’s 77 is his 10th half century for first grade and is now just 50 runs away from 2000 first grade runs.
John Simon (39) then provided some unadulterated hitting in the middle order to set up Kiama for the final over.
Needing 10 runs, Kiama faulted by the smallest of margins to walk away second best at 8/184.
Second grade comfortably defeated Gerringong at home in what has been dubbed “the Norris match”.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, Shawn Power (15), Taylor Hudson (13) and Matt Bond (11) all chipped in with cameos.
However, it was captain Steve “The Uncle” Norris who lead the way with 45 runs. Steve and his elder brother Greg “The Dad” Norris (35) put on 59 runs to lay the foundation for Kiama’s total of 151.
In the field Kiama were immaculate, lead by Josh “The Kid” Norris who showed being nine doesn’t mean you can’t cut it in the big leagues – he has the bruise to prove it.
Josh’s inspirational effort in the field inspired Kiama’s bowling efforts with all bowlers taking at least one wicket.
Among the best were Taylor Hudson (4/28), Rob Farrell (2/32) and Steve Norris (2/18).
Gerringong crumbled for 141 in the 39th over to secure Kiama’s second win on the trot.
Third grade managed to make cricket look easy with a shellacking of Warilla in a match that only lasted 38 overs in total.
The Cavaliers rolled Warilla for 52 with Andrew Hart continuing his fantastic season taking 6/22 while Callum Moggach snared 1/25 and Franky Weir a wicket with the only ball he bowled.
In the chase, only Joe Murphy (20) and Raj Joshi (3) fell as Kiama passed the total in the 17th over with Steve Piper and Gary Koks undefeated on 9 and 25 respectively.
